MEG CHARNAUD
PORTFOLIO
Adaptive and adventurous fashion & textile designer with a demonstrated history in areas of fashion design, sampling, production, sustainability, marketing, events and PR. Dedicated to understanding brand or company identity and incorporating current events. Through my studies I've enjoyed reflecting on the world around me and translating that into my design approach and other concepts.
At 17 I started a swim resort label that focused on small runs of limited colourways. The brand discloses full transparency with production and honors designs that was true to our ethos and never trends. This endeavour over the last 5 years so given me many experiences in production including multiple overseas production trips, marketing and sampling specifically in women's and resort wear.
I've delved into my additional passion for sustainable production focusing on textiles waste, sustainable production, and innovative design.
In 2019 I co-founded Second Life Movement now run in all major citys of Australia and recently the UK. We curate 100 plus sellers of preloved, vintage, local designers who up-cycle and local natural & ethical products. Curated by myself and Aviva Brackenridge to de-stigmatise the image around second-hand clothing and educate consumers about fast fashion and sustainable consumption we created a reoccurring community gathering that continues to grow.
I freelance as a fashion consultant by appointment with a sustainable focus and mentored start-up brands through range development, design, brand identity, strategy and production.
Im open to work with sustainably minded brands and brands looking to improve their community and sustainability performance.

THIS graduate collection examines The Chakras, a complex and ancient energy system originating in the early traditions of Hinduism. Her work builds on ideas from her existing swimwear brand, XCHARNAUD, which focuses on a holistic approach to womenswear integrating lifestyle and a deeper connection to metaphysical health and wellbeing.
MYwork centers on the harmony that exists between the physical body, mind, and spirit. She looks at the seven main Chakras that run along the spine, known as the energy centers of the body.
Each Chakra has a corresponding name and colour, for example, the Root Chakra is red and is known to have feminine energy; its role is to keep us grounded and connected with the energy of the earth. Each of MY looks in the collection represents a response to the seven Chakras, with the final eighth body representing darkness and the absence of energy.
To begin her design process, I look at imagery from nature and then visualizes the emotional associations that arise from this process. This is documented with spontaneous drawings and sketches which ultimately become ideas for garments and fabrics. These drawn concepts are then transferred to the mannequin and developed further with draping. I also uses fabric surfaces and textures as a source of inspiration for garment shapes. She explores textile manipulations and treatments such as free hand embroidery, shirring and smocking to create sculptural forms.
In the future, I would like to take elements of this collection and develop them into a new body of work for MY own brand. AND would also like to pursue employment opportunities in the fashion industry overseas.

MODIF Modif’s “All Work No Play” collection focuses on re-defining workwear stereotypes by using Trompe L’Oeil or “trick of the eye” techniques via technical deconstruction. Hints of personality and utility permeate throughout the collection as a response to the dull work environment.
